A Canadian police certificate may need an apostille for the receiving country to recognize its authenticity for official purposes, like immigration or employment
Canada is not a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. Instead, Canada has a specific process where documents must be authenticated by the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) and then often legalized by the embassy of the country where it will be used
For Canadian documents to be recognized by foreign authorities, they must undergo a specific authentication and/or legalization proces
As a service to our clients who are obtaining a Canadian Police Certificate we have an in-house service to obtain the Apostille for you, once the certificate has been obtained. If we are handling the whole application for you and know in advance, we cann arrange for the original certificate not to leave Canada until the Apostille is complete - which will speed up the process
